ABOUT WIND CAVE NATURE RESERVE

 

Wind Cave Nature Reserve (1°24.915’ N and 110° 08.109’ E) is located in Western Sarawak and is among the most featured cave which not only known as tourist hotspot but also as home to 24 bat species. A total of 83 species of bats were recorded in Sarawak and 38 species are known to be cave dweller. They chose cavern as their roosting spot as the cave itself provides a balance ecosystem that crucial for this particular group to survive. The bats inhibiting Wind Cave NR can be classified accordingly to their biological and physiological requirement since they are very species specific.

Situated by the riverbank of Sarawak River and surrounded by alluvium, WCNR covers 6.16 hectares and includes the cave itself and the surrounding forest. WCNR are located about 5 km southwest of Bau and 30 km from Kuching mostly 45 minutes driving.
